The Cottage Provides Young Women Facing Housing Insecurity with a Path to Stability and Success
FORSYTH COUNTY, GA - In Forsyth County, young women ages 18-24 who are facing housing insecurity have a place to find stability, support, and the opportunity to build a brighter future. The Cottage, a group home established by The Place in 2021, provides a safe, supportive environment where young women can work toward independence, pursue their goals, and build successful futures.
The Cottage was created to meet the needs of goal-oriented young women, including those who have aged out of foster care and may be at risk of homelessness or housing instability. Through The Cottage, residents receive more than a place to live. They receive the guidance, resources, and support needed to take the next steps toward independence.
Each resident works closely with a Case Management Manager, House Parent, and additional support staff at The Place to develop an individualized plan and set defined goals for her future. From education and employment to financial stability and independent living skills, residents are encouraged and supported as they work toward becoming confident, self-sufficient young women.
"This is a long-term investment in a young woman who has defined goals," said Paige Whalen, Director of Client Services at The Place. "We work with young women to launch them successfully. We remove any barrier such as paying for housing, food or counseling so the women can focus solely on their educational and employment goals."
Since opening its doors in 2021, The Cottage has already helped seven residents graduate from college or vocational school - an achievement that demonstrates the impact of providing young women with stability and the resources they need to succeed.
"To me, The Cottage means a safe and long-term home. It provides me with the comfort I need to achieve my academic and professionals' goals which allows me to build financial stability. The Cottage is more than a shelter; it is an opportunity to imagine and create the life you want. The loving and supportive people from The Cottage have helped me in more ways than any other assistance program, so I am grateful to call The Cottage my home," - a Cottage resident.
The Cottage works with each resident to establish an individualized plan for success, helping her identify goals, overcome barriers, and develop the skills necessary for life beyond The Cottage. The goal is not simply to provide housing, but to create a foundation from which each young woman can build a stable, independent, and fulfilling future.
The Cottage is more than a home. It is a place where young women can find stability, discover their potential, and take meaningful steps toward a brighter future.
